Possibly some areas are more of a trap than others. No oine is looking for or expecting Florence and Winston to be involved. But whoever instigated the war knew Max would try to intervene, and had to put him out of the way. They did not count on Sawtooth being more savvy than they believe robots to be.

If someone is trying to make the robots look like a threat to the colonists, Sawtooth's ingenuity is going to count against their cause.
